Skills I Developed During My Summer Research Internship at OmniOnline
I had the fantastic opportunity to put my nephew to work this summer. As the owner of a small company there can be a lot of long hours and hard decisions – but one perk is to be able to give a hard working teenager a chance to gain some valuable work experience. You can’t get a job without experience, you can’t get experience without a job. My neighbour took a chance on me when I was about Dexter’s age, and got me a job working as a helper installing HVAC in the summer. It was a valuable experience I was grateful for. Interestingly enough those summers running ductwork in hot attics gave me a unique perspective working for ServiceBox many (many!) years later.
I enjoyed having a helper these last few weeks and was pleased to see what a hard working young man my nephew has become.

During my summer research internship at OmniOnline, I had the opportunity to develop valuable skills in research, data organization, technology, and professional communication This experience allowed me to learn how to use different tools and apply my skills to real-world research projects.
Google Sheets
One of the skills I developed was Google Sheets. I learned how to organize information, manage data, and keep research materials organized. Using spreadsheets helped me understand how data can be presented clearly and efficiently.
Google Docs
I also improved my skills with Google Docs. I used it to create, organize, and edit documents while working with research information. This helped me become better at presenting information in a clear and professional way.
Market Research
Another important skill I developed was market research. I learned how to gather information about markets, businesses, and customers. This helped me understand how research can provide useful information and support better decision-making.
Research Skills
Throughout my internship, I also strengthened my overall research skills. I learned how to find relevant information, organize my findings, evaluate sources, and communicate information clearly.
Exposure to ChatGPT
During my internship, I also gained exposure to ChatGPT and AI tools. This gave me an opportunity to learn how AI can be used to support research, organize ideas, and improve productivity. I also learned the importance of reviewing AI-generated information and using it responsibly.
Introduction to SEO
During my internship, I also received a basic introduction to Search Engine Optimization (SEO). I learned how SEO can help websites and online content become easier for search engines to understand and easier for people to find.
I was introduced to concepts such as keywords, page titles, headings, and creating useful content for an online audience. This gave me a better understanding of how businesses can improve their online presence and reach more people through search engines.
What I Learned
My summer research internship at OmniOnline gave me the opportunity to develop skills that I can use in school, future jobs, and other projects. I gained experience with tools such as Google Sheets, Google Docs, and ChatGPT, while also improving my abilities in market research, SEO, and information analysis.
Overall, I am grateful for the experience and everything I learned during my internship. The skills and knowledge I gained will continue to be useful as I work toward my future education and career goals.
