Professional Web Design Elements
If you’re like many business owners then you want your business website to look as good as possible but you probably don’t have the design skills or software (never mind the time) to make that happen. For most, that means calling up your web designer and asking for some attention to the various little details that can make that important difference. That might still be your best bet – it’s probably a great use of your time and resources.
Web Design Elements Made Easy
But recently a company has come along with a great tool that is very easy to learn (it even has tutorials to help you along) to help you accomplish this yourself. If design and graphics are something you would like to spend more time doing, then check it out. It’s called Canva Design School. ( They’ve since changed their site but I’ve re-linked this to the new location as canva.com now requires you to login) You can see from this diagram that it already has over 30,000 followers on its Google+ page and its still in beta!
As a web designer, I was curious so I made my way to their website, registered and gave the design tool a try. I was quite impressed. If you have no desire to learn Photoshop or some other more complex design software, Canva is a very simple, easy-to-learn tool that allows website owners who are not web designers, to quickly create professional looking graphics for use on their website, Facebook and Twittter posts or Google+ page.
Basically it has a menu of graphics, fonts and backgrounds on the left and you select them into your design on the right. You get a healthy dose of free choices and if you don’t like any of them you can use your own (from your own computer) or buy others right there on the site. A week or so after I signed up, I got an email asking me if I wanted to take a short course to become a better designer – I was curious so tried it out. Again, it was a nice simple layout, an easy process and gave some very basic design guidelines that everyone can benefit from. They take that education one step further with their very informative blog that teaches you all sorts of valuable design skills as well.
The Value of a Professional Web Designer
While I certainly would not advise anyone to use this tool to replace their web designer, I do think its a nice piece to add to a website owner’s arsenal. Especially someone who does a lot of blogging or changing their content frequently. Graphics and illustrations can do wonders to help the look and feel of these kinds of pages and when titled and labeled properly they can help with SEO (search engine optimization) as well! Who doesn’t want a better looking website that ranks higher in search engines?
A professional web designer in your corner however is simply irreplaceable. They contribute not just more complex, expensive software – that can do things this tool can’t, but hopefully also experience and tons of design know-how that tools like this only begin to touch on. In some cases you might just not have an eye for these sorts of things and your web designer hopefully is in their profession because they do. You might even want to combine this tool with some advice from your web designer on size and placement of your graphic creations.
So, if you’re looking to expand on your design knowledge and ability, to update your website or social media page with exciting graphics or to improve your website or blog SEO – signup for this tool and give it a try. It is a great way to become more active and responsible in making your online presence more effective!
